On behalf of the board of the Sara-Placid Lakers Hockey league, we would like to thank the businesses and individuals who donated to this year’s (second annual) online auction which was held in November. With your help, we were able to raise over $4,000 which will help to offset the costs associated with operating our league including ice time and the purchase of new goalie equipment.

For several years now, our organization has operated combined teams for kids in Saranac Lake, Lake Placid and the surrounding communities which has allowed us to offer an A & B level program to meet the players’ developmental needs. We have relied on our 20 or so volunteer coaches who share their love of the game with our 150 young local athletes: girls and boys from 4 to 12 years old, from learn-to-skate, mini mites up through pee wee level hockey. These volunteers highlight the essentials of teamwork, competition, leadership, sportsmanship and fun — both on and off the ice — and donate countless hours between practices, skill sessions, games and tournaments.

Our athletes are forming friendships and building skills that will carry them far in life. The costs of equipment, ice time, tournament entry fees and software to facilitate communication and organization continue to rise and, although our participants pay registration fees and families contribute via raffles, we still need outside support to keep the program alive.

Finnigan’s, Can-Am Rugby, Hotel Saranac & Campfire Grill, Norman Ridge Farmstead, Casa del Sol, Sayles Construction, SL Hot House, Mirror Lake Inn, Miracle on Ice Hockey Camp, Planet Hockey, Cape Air, Craig Wood Golf Course, Whiteface Lodge, Big Slide Brewery, the Buffalo Sabres and the New York Islanders hockey teams.

Supporters from near and far placed bids online via 32Auctions — folks with past and current Lakers athletes and folks who are simply avid hockey fans.
