Trump indictment a ‘sad day’ for U.S.

To the editor:

Unless you have been in a remote cabin in the woods with no service and no contact with the outside world, you are aware that former President Trump has been indicted on multiple counts related to the retention of classified documents.

Some would think that I would rejoice in the news and the prospect that Trump may finally be held accountable. But it is a sad day that for the first time in our 240-year history, a former leader of our country has been accused of espionage. Most of the charges are self-inflicted and could have been avoided if he had just complied with the request to return said documents.

Of course, in toddleresque fashion, he did not. Now the cacophony from the Trump minions is deafening. Drum beating about the weaponization of the DOJ, FBI and the courts is farcical. Again, Trump could have just returned the documents, he did not.

Then there is the tried-and-true battle cry of “what about Hillary.” Remember that multiple Trump appointed attorney generals concluded there was not enough evidence to pursue in court. There was not enough evidence there to appoint a special council. He had four years to persecute (prosecute) Hillary, but he could not.

Then there is the “Biden crime family” mantra, the earth-shattering news about some Trumped up (pun intended) smoking gun audio recordings. Of course, nobody has produced or heard these recordings, they are probably in the same box as the proof that the voting machines miss applied votes. Seriously if, in fact, these audio recordings exist why have they not been released, we are waiting.

The other cat call is that its political retribution against the Republican front runner, not likely when one analyzes his recent string of political losses by Trump. If I were a gambler, I would bet to win in a head-to-head race against Trump in the general rather than an untested opponent.

Let us just remember if he had just returned the darn documents when given multiple opportunities to do so none of this would be happening now and he would have one less indictment to worry about, sad.
