Friday’s Christmas concert at Northwood School Innovation Hub to benefit Shipman Youth Center

To the editor:

As an extension of our Mirror Lake summer concert series, we are proud to sponsor Mary Hubley, known as Maribyrd, at the Innovation Hub at Northwood School at 2495 Main St., Lake Placid, at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2 at for a Christmas concert to support the Shipman Youth Center.

Affectionately described by her peers as “NJ’s Joni Mitchell,” Maribyrd is a singer/songwriter, born and raised in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains of northern New Jersey. She plays acoustic guitar, mandolin, a little bass and has both a gift and a passion for harmonies. “Ethereal” and “floating” are words commonly used in regard to her vocals. She will do a mix of Christmas songs, original and well-known covers. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Also accompanying Maribyrd will be Sammy, who will set the tone through her circus style dance, hula hooping and aerial acrobatic performances which will be a unique experience.

We hope you will join us. Pam and I recognize the contribution that the Shipman Youth Center plays within our community. While Lake Placid has obvious wealth, there is a community within it that is in need. The Shipman Youth Center provides some of the most vulnerable children of our community with a space to congregate, activities to help them avoid poor decisions and to provide a safe environment where the limited after school care is beyond the reach of many families.

As you know, Pam and I usually have these concerts to showcase talent in our backyard; however, we currently have 4 or 5 inches of snow there. We normally charge, giving all monies raised to our singer/songwriter. In the spirit of the holidays, we have sponsored the cost of putting on this concert, and Northwood School is providing the space free of charge. We hope, that in the true spirit of the holidays, that you will consider making a donation to this worthy cause. We ask that you make a tax-deductible donation that reflects your philanthropic desire to make a difference for the most needy in our community. Please reach deep and give what you can. You can do so by check payable to the Shipman Youth Center to the concert or donate online at www.shipmanyouthcenter.org. Even if you cannot make the concert, donations will be greatly appreciated for this worthy cause.

Reservations are preferred, as seating is limited. Contact me by phone at 609-841-3450 or by email at Jrd43@cornell.edu. As always, please bring a favorite dish/plate to pass and a libation to drink. If alcoholic be discreet, this is a school. We look forward to seeing you at the Hub and join us in this worthy cause.
