Condolences to the Holderieds
(The following was a letter to the Holderied family, which the author asked the Lake Placid News to print this week. It was written by News columnist Frank Shatz.)
Dear Stefy, Peter and Heidi:
The news about Winni’s passing away have reached me, just now, in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Please, accept my deepest sympathy!
Winni, and I have been friends, in Lake Placid, for decades. I have often served for him as a confidante.
We have been, an odd couple. He hauled from a German family where some members have been great admirers of Hitler. I am a Holocaust survivor.
But Winni’s decency, good heart, and humanity, made me love him.
I have admired his gumption, his generosity and his whole personality.
With his passing, he felt behind a world that is in need of individuals like he was.
Winni, left a legacy of decency!
Hugs,
Frank Shatz
