You’re invited to Community Day

To the editor:

Lake Placid Community Day is coming up on Sunday, Sept. 12, rain or shine! I encourage you to mark your calendars and come join us. This old-fashioned country fair style day is FREE for the Lake Placid community and will include free food and drink, live music, kids’ games, the pavilion of nonprofits and organizations, and the Distinguished Volunteer of the Year Award. If you live, work, or volunteer in the community, you are invited.

As part of this day we also promote the volunteer spirit of this community by inviting local nonprofit and service organizations to set up and showcase themselves. The following groups have already signed up to participate: Adirondack Film, AdkAction, Ausable River Association, Ecumenical Charity Program, Educational Opportunity Fund for Lake Placid Central School District, Family and Community Engagement Center – North Country, Family Forever Permanency Resource Center, Garden Club of Lake Placid, Homestead Development Corp., John Brown Lives!, Lake Placid / North Elba Historical Society, Lake Placid Center for the Arts, Lake Placid Institute, Lake Placid Outing Club, Lake Placid Police Department, Lake Placid Sinfonietta, Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department, Lions Club of Lake Placid, , Mercy Care for the Adirondacks, Mirror Lake Watershed Association, North Country Childcare Coordinating Council , North Country SPCA, Rotary Club of Lake Placid Lake Placid New York Rotary Foundation, Songs at Mirror Lake, St. Eustace Episcopal Church, St. Agnes School and SPARK Enrichment, Uihlein Foundation and Zonta Club of the Adirondacks.

We still have room for more if your nonprofit or organization wants to have a presence. If you would like to sign up or for more information, please contact us at lakeplacidcommunityday@gmail.com.

Volunteers are so important to our community, our economy and our way of life. The pandemic has faced us with unprecedented challenges over this past year but it has also shown us the true strength of our community. We look forward to celebrating this community.

We will be following all recommended local, state and CDC guidelines. We encourage masks for everyone. If unvaccinated, a mask is required.

See you safely from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12 at the horse show grounds!

Sincerely,

Valerie Abraham-Rogers
