Why are NYS post offices rejecting CDC mask policy?

To the editor:

For the last year, the public has been solemnly adjured to follow “CDC recommendations” to the letter, so why, when most private businesses have adopted the new policy for vaccinated customers, is an agency of the federal government refusing to honor it? And it’s only happening in New York state, despite the governor having dropped the state mask mandate!

According to the official U.S. Postal Service website, mask-wearing is required ONLY for employees, NOT postal customers. For valid official information, not what a local postal clerk “thinks” it is, search “USPS Mask Policy” for the latest update, dated 5-19-21; it’s not ambiguous. Surely individual post offices aren’t authorized by USPS to make up their own rules, counter to state and national directives!
