Thank you, teachers
To the editor:
I just wanted to take a moment to thank the teachers and administrators of the Lake Placid school district. Since March I have been consistently overwhelmed by their creativity, generosity and dedication to the families of this area.
This pandemic changed life drastically overnight. They had one weekend to figure out how to completely overhaul the way we teach our children, and they rose to the challenge. They worked together to make sure the kids felt connected and heard. From the eighth-grade teachers traveling to every house to celebrate graduation of middle school to the fourth-grade teachers collaborating to create fun, unified weekly assignments and celebrating their students’ discoveries with the whole class, they were patient and innovative and caring. I am convinced Mrs. Colby is magic — how else could she wrangle daily second-grade Zoom calls and make them both productive and fun?
I have always known we had a strong school system, but this pandemic really made it clear how invested these educators are in our children. For that I will always be grateful.
