Olympic 40th thanks

To the editor:

I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who participated in our 40th Anniversary Celebration of the 1980 Winter Olympics. It does truly take a village to pull off an event like this, and it takes a village to embrace the endeavor and savor the experience.

Thank you to the hundreds of people who attended one or more of our events, regardless of the temperature and conditions. Visitors and locals alike came and enjoyed, and for that we are grateful.

Thank you to our sponsors that provided us with the support we needed to coordinate and execute all of these events: Adirondack Health, Lake Placid Family Dental, The Pines Inn, High Peaks Resort, Lake Placid Horse Shows, Long Run Wealth Advisors, Norfolk Law, Bear Essentials, Elderwood of Uihlein at Lake Placid, Lake Placid Pub and Brewery and Great Adirondack Brewery.

Thank you to all of the athletes and 1980 volunteers and staffers who made appearances at the various events to help us share our Olympic legacy — past, present and future. Thanks to the organizations that manned the Fun Zones all week and added another dimension of interaction for guests.

The entire 10-day event was made possible through a collaboration of the Lake Placid Business Association, Olympic Regional Development Authority, Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism, New York Ski Educational Foundation, the village of Lake Placid, town of North Elba and a number of individual community members. This was a new idea, a new way of doing it, and through collaboration and teamwork, we made it happen. We are blessed to be part of this community and to share it with others.

Thank you to the committee, whose idea started over a glass of wine and grew into something amazing: Patty Clark, Carrie Gentile, Catherine Ericson, Zach Clark, Tim Robinson, Danielle LaCavalla, Beatty Schleuter, Paul Wylie, Greg Moore, Jon Lundin, Eric Granger, Molly Mayer, Heather LePere, Cathy Johnston, Mayor Craig Randall, Jeff Potter, Sarah Kane, Judy Shea and Jay Harvey. It took months of planning, but in the end it exceeded even our expectations.

I was honored to serve as your chair. Thank you again.
