Neighbors helping neighbors

To the editor:

Once again the residents and staff at the Uihlein Living Center are reminded of how fortunate we are to live in a tight-knit community.

On June 13, a malfunction with the heating system resulted in a prompt response from local volunteer fire and rescue personnel and state police. While the heating system was safely shut down, residents were brought outside to the courtyard as a safety precaution. Family and visitors joined us, and everyone enjoyed beverages and activities to pass the time on that sunny Sunday morning.

A short time later, and we were confident there were no safety concerns, residents returned to the Living Center just in time for lunch. Later that day, our lead maintenance technician made the repair to the heating system, and all was back to normal.

Not only did our staff work together as a team, the volunteer emergency responders and state police did an exceptional job helping residents remain comfortable and at ease. We are so grateful for their service, and our residents greatly appreciated the reassurance they provided.

We are fortunate to have such amazing individuals serving as volunteer first responders and state police in our community.

Thank you!
