Let’s help Long Lake rebuild

Long Lake, a community of fewer than 400 residents, was hit with severe flooding on Tuesday, July 11 that upended streets, damaged property and impacted local businesses during the area’s peak tourism season. It’ll take lots of time — and resources — to repair the destruction.

If you have the resources to help, it’s time to pitch in.

A GoFundMe campaign has been started to help at least one woman, Valerie Galvagni, whose home was partially buried in silt and mud from the flooding on Tuesday. That campaign can be accessed at bit.ly/43mAF7g. But a broader relief effort is now underway via the Adirondack Foundation, which is activating its Special and Urgent Needs Fund to “coordinate and distribute support to the communities where it is most needed in the days, weeks and months to come,” according to the nonprofit organization. This fund was originally created in the wake of Hurricaine Irene back in 2011 — and it was used again during the coronavirus pandemic — but now the foundation is aiming to use the funds to help Long Lake, Indian Lake and Blue Mountain Lake.

In the Adirondacks, we take care of one another when a crisis strikes. There’s little we can’t accomplish when we come together as a region.

Those interested in contributing to the Adirondack Foundation’s relief efforts can find out more by visiting the group’s website — www.adirondackfoundation.org/funds/special-and-urgent-needs-fund — or by contacting Leslee Mounger at leslee.mounger@adkfoundation.org or 518-523-9904.

Starting at $1.44/week.
