It’s time once again to submit nominations for the Lake Placid Hall of Fame, which is located at the Lake Placid Conference Center in the hallway near the 1932 Olympic Arena. The deadline for submissions is Aug. 1.

If you haven’t seen the Hall of Fame, we encourage you to visit … or see the inductees’ plaques online at lakeplacidolympicmuseum.org/explore/hall-of-fame.

“Every person makes their own journey in life. Some, when presented with opportunity, do the uncommon things that help them rise to the pinnacle of their sports,” the website states. “The Lake Placid Hall of Fame celebrates those who rise to such greatness.”

This is an impressive list of people who have contributed to the legacy of the Olympic Region. In all, we counted 159 entries, representing more than 180 people — including the 1948 U.S. Olympic bobsled team and 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team. There are local Olympians, civic leaders, politicians, philanthropists, business people, artists, residents who contributed to sports in the community and those who contributed to the quality of life here.

The Lake Placid Hall of Fame began in 1983, and plaques commemorating each member are on display in the hall.

We encourage you to get involved in the nomination process, as there are many more people who deserve to be in the hall of fame.

To be considered for induction, individuals must be current or past residents of the Olympic Region (Essex, Clinton and Franklin counties) or have a significant connection to the area. Nominees must have made significant sports, cultural or civic contributions to the region, or their endeavors must have enhanced the quality of life, fellowship of man or historical heritage of the area.

The selection committee maintains a list of previous nominees. Nominations will only be considered if they are accompanied by a list of accomplishments relative to the purpose of the Hall of Fame.

Send nominations to: Lake Placid Hall of Fame Committee, c/o Courtney Bastian, 2634 Main St., Lake Placid, NY 12946.

Starting at $1.44/week.
