September will be busy

You may notice that the calendar of events for September will be busier than in past years. You can give credit (or blame) to the COVID-19 pandemic and the welcome upgrades at the Olympic Speedskating Oval on Main Street.

We’re grateful to be able to hold these annual events after a year of cancellations.

The Lake Placid Community Day, for example, will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12 at the North Elba Show Grounds. It’s usually held in the spring, at the show grounds, and it’s a time to celebrate those who work, live or volunteer in the village of Lake Placid and town of North Elba.

The Lake Placid Marathon and Half will be held on the same day. It usually takes place in June, but it moved to September due to the uncertainty in COVID-19 rules. The finish line has traditionally been at the Oval, but due to construction, it will be on Station Street this year.

The I Love BBQ and Music Festival changed its date and location. Usually held on the Oval around the Fourth of July, this annual fundraiser for the Shipman Youth Center is being held on Labor Day weekend at the show grounds.

The Lake Placid Ski Club’s Olympic Car Show, usually held Labor Day weekend on the Oval, will be held Sept. 5 at the show grounds instead.

We look forward to these events and hope they return to their normal dates and venues next year.

Starting at $1.44/week.
