LIONS CLUB LOG: Lions Club meets LPHS senior Joselyn Hernandez

The Lake Placid Lions Club has had a busy start to the 2025-26 seasons involving the Annual Radio Auction, Children’s Christmas Party and bimonthly meetings to discuss club business, and upcoming additional fund raisers and events such as the Lake Placid Lions Club Annual fun-filled Toboggan Slide Event and Junior Ski Jumping Competition.

More on these events shortly!

Many of our meetings involve presentations from various representatives and officials from neighboring Lions Clubs, local oganizations and/or individuals.

Recently we were treated to a presentation by a Lake Placid High School senior Joselyn Hernandez, who was accompanied by school representative Kristian Harvey. Joslyn, who is visually impaired, explained that she was working on her Senior Project, and after considerable thought had chosen activities that may help her gain confidence, balance and ability to increase her navigation skills.

We were all impressed when she explained that her activities involved climbing lessons at the indoor wall at Mount Van Hoevenberg. Concentration, muscle memory and focus was the combination that helped her to reach the top she explained.

Other activities that she had been learning involved skating which is helping her to increase balance skills. Cross-country skiing is also on her winter agenda, and yes rock climbing when warmer weather returns.

Joselyn also stated that all of these activities required necessary equipment needed to help her reach her goals and to improve her confidence in dealing with her vision impairment. This assistance was an easy decision.

Joselyn will be attending SUNY Albany in the fall.

The LPLC wishes Joselyn success and best wishes on attaining her goals with her senior project and at SUNY Albany.
