Whether you’re looking for educational support, fun activities, or ways to give back, there’s something for everyone this fall at Lake Placid Public Library.

Loan periods extended

Library books are meant to be read — not just sit on shelves. We’ve extended our loan period from 14 to 28 days so you can take home more books and enjoy them at your own pace. With a full month to explore, you can build your own “To Be Read” pile with new releases, timeless classics, recommendations from friends, or hidden gems that catch your eye.

Renew your books easily online or by calling us. And remember — LPPL doesn’t charge late fees as long as items are returned in good condition. So bring a book bag and stock up for sweater weather!

Recharge at the library

Need a quick phone charge while you’re here? We’ve added three new charging stations in the reading room, children’s room, and nonfiction area.

While your device powers up, take a moment to recharge yourself–read, write, start a puzzle, grab an adult coloring book or browse our art books in the gallery.

Programs, events

– Constitution Day: On Sept. 17, we handed out 100 free pocket U.S. Constitutions. Learn more at lakeplacidlibrary.org/resources/civics/constitution.

– The LEGO Club returned Thursday, Sept. 25 and meets the last Thursday of each month. Kids ages 4-12 are welcome to build and create with an adult.

– Free math tutoring is available by appointment for children of all ages. Call the front desk to connect with a tutor.

– Homeschool Thursdays returned on Sept. 18 with monthly read-alouds, discussions, and activities for K-6 students and siblings. Next up: a visit to the Lake Placid Olympic Museum on Oct. 9 to meet athletes and explore exhibits. Register by Oct. 7 at tinyurl.com/MeetOlympians.

Volunteers are back

Volunteers help us keep shelves tidy, repair books, maintain archives, and assist at events. Many opportunities paused during COVID are now returning–and we’d love to have you join us. Fill out a volunteer application at tinyurl.com/HelpLPPL.

Your next read

Looking for book recommendations? Our staff is happy to help, and you can also use the catalog: open a favorite book’s record and click “Content from NoveList” to see similar titles. When you find one you like, open the record, click “Request” and we’ll call you when it is available at the front desk.

New books are displayed on the main floor near the entrance. You can also search for recent purchases by selecting “New Fiction,” “New Nonfiction,” and other filters in the catalog’s left-hand panel under the heading “Item.” Prefer a list? Find a full monthly roundup linked from our homepage.

And don’t forget — sometimes the best book is the one you stumble upon. Wander the stacks, read a few pages, and see what speaks to you.
