The 4th annual Adirondack Book Festival was held on Saturday, Aug. 16 at the Lake Placid Middle/High School, featuring 16 authors and illustrators. More than 200 came to enjoy this annual event, which features presentations, a chance to meet the authors, and art activity tables for young illustrators and budding writers. Much appreciation to the many volunteers and sponsors who bring this festival to our community each year.
A huge thank you to all who attended our book discussion event on Friday, Aug. 1. We partnered with The Bookstore Plus to bring Lars Tiffany and author S.L. Price together to discuss Price’s new book, “The American Game: History and Hope in the Country of Lacrosse.” The speakers shared stories about the Native American origins of lacrosse, discussed where it is headed (including the 2028 Olympics) and took questions from a crowd of 45 people. Thank you for supporting your library and these wonderful speakers.
The Color My World summer reading program brought over 200 young readers to the library in July and we are so thankful for the presenters as well as the participants that helped to make it such a successful season.
The library wrapped up the summer programming for 2025 with “Underwater Wonders,” an exploration of the aquatic bugs in our rivers and streams, presented by the Ausable Freshwater Center on Aug. 21.
This summer our large groups of children and families, both visitors and locals, were treated to a great many of Ms. Linda’s delightful tales. Every Friday morning at 10:30, Ms. Linda continues to entertain young children with stories and songs. Come any Friday to meet with other families with young children and pick up a few books to bring home after.

As the summer ends, the library’s fall planning is well underway. Homeschool Thursday will be starting soon as well as the always popular LEGO Club. For more information check out our website, www.lakeplacidlibrary.org.
Art gallery
Make sure you stop in to admire the World Figure and Fancy Skating Pop-Up Museum in the Guy Brewster Hughes Art Gallery before October, when it will be moved to the 1932 Olympic Arena for the 2025 World Figure and Fancy Skating Championships on Black Ice.
Math tutoring
Now that September is close and we are preparing for the school year anyone needing math help should call the library to set up an appointment for free tutoring.
