What a busy month at the LPPL! The summer program planning is complete, and we eagerly await the arrival of summer visitors to our streets.
— Library Budget Vote — The Library Board, Director Bambi Pedu, and the library staff would like to thank everyone who came out on May 13 to support the library on the budget vote.
We have some new changes to announce at the LPPL. Our Director, Bambi Pedu, is retiring on June 30 after 10 years in her position. She began her tenure as Director in September 2014, making her the twenty-second director in the library’s 140-year history. Over the years, Bambi successfully highlighted children’s programming and initiated library services within the community.
As Director, she introduced adult programming, organized book clubs, and implemented math tutoring. In 2017, Bambi recognized the need to upgrade the children’s area. Walls were removed to create a separate Young Adult section, distinct from the Juvenile section. She was dedicated to not only keeping the library relevant but to help it flourish. We thank her for her years of dedication and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
Math tutoring – As the 2025 school year is ending and as students prepare for exams, we want to remind you that free math tutoring is available at the library for anyone needing extra help. Call 518-523-3200 to set up an appointment.

This program is available thanks to the Adirondack Foundation – Lake Placid Education Foundation Fund.
The Homeschool Thursday group concluded the school year with an art show reception in the gallery. We had a number of families participate from all over the region, even as far as Watertown. The children’s artwork was impressive, clever, and imaginary. Artwork consisted of a variety of mediums, including marker, watercolors, collage, colored pencil, photography, and even sculpture. Congratulations to all the artists.
The Lego club held its final session of the year on Thursday, May 15, featuring a celebration that included fun snacks, Lego glasses, and of course, building with Legos. See you all in the Fall!
