August was an eventful month with great turn-outs at our programs, new members and a few members we haven’t seen in a bit. We celebrate them all, the silver and gold.

This is why I need to start with our most recent memorable event of the annual dinner at Heaven Hill Farm on Bear Cub Lane. In attendance was our golden honorary member, Ruth Hart, who is 104 years young. It was a pleasure to reacquaint with this special woman who had been a very active Garden Club member and former president. She lives in Lake Placid above her enchanting grounds where St. Eustace Church once stood. It is a beautiful, tranquil garden where for just a nickel you can enter, sit, reflect and wave to Ruth.

Previous to this outstanding event was the self-guided tour of the lovely gardens at Whiteface Club and Resort, an exceptional location for a wedding. After the tour, we enjoyed lunch at the scenic Moose Lodge boathouse restaurant overlooking their marina on Lake Placid.

The Triangle Garden work session was well attended, and everyone worked hard under the guidance of Patricia Hofbauer. The gardens are filling in nicely, becoming more verdant and worthy of a good report and gratefulness to the North Elba LEAF Grant. Our sponsors for the evening were the kindly wait staff of Peak 47 at the beautiful Whiteface Lodge, a quintessential Adirondack environment. The hors d’oeuvres were outstanding, and the special drinks and wine were a treat. Much appreciation!

Earliest in the month, an exclusive, fun evening was spent on Lake Placid via a wonderful boat cruise thanks to the Lake Placid Marina & Boat Tours. Our proficient driver, Shannon, did a great job navigating the pontoon boat to our destination, where we had the privilege to tour the gorgeous private garden on the lake. We were greeted by our gracious host and her two excited labs. Our host was concerned that the gardens would be compromised by the recent hail. If this were the case, it’s hard to imagine much better, as the grounds were stunning. We thank our host very much, and we are inspired.
