The Lake Placid Public Library has been reaping the results of the beautiful summer weather. Visitors and patrons alike have been enjoying the backyard, its flourishing gardens, and the refreshing breezes from Mirror Lake.

Library Crawl

On Saturday, June 3, we encountered some fascinating friends just crawling from library to library, presenting a passport for stamping. Everyone agreed that their day was amazing. A few mentioned the beauty and uniqueness of each library they visited. Each entry will be entered to win a drawing for a basket of books from North Country authors. Special thanks to the Champlain Memorial Library for organizing this fun event.

Community Day

Lake Placid Community Day was held on Sunday, June 4 at the North Elba Show Grounds. Along with all the festivities, free food, games, music, and dancing, the crowd shared in a celebration with the recipients of the Distinguished Volunteer of the Year awards. This years receivers were: Grace Ericson, Youth DVY and co-recipients Beverley Reid and Martha Swan, Adult DVY. What a wonderful celebration of our community. Congratulations to you all.

Genealogy

Judith Harper, professional genealogist, was at the library on Wednesday, June 21 to meet with people who have questions about their genealogy. She was able to share search ideas for each of them. “Ask a Genealogist” program is held every third Wednesday of the month at the LPPL. If you have run into a brick wall in your family tree and don’t know what to do next, give us a call at 518-523-3200 or stop at the front desk to make an appointment for the Wednesday, July 17th session.

Storytime

Every Friday morning at 10:30, Ms. Linda will be in the children’s room sharing a story, a few songs, maybe some dancing, and a table activity for children and their parents. She has some very special stories picked out for the summer days ahead.

Children’s Summer Programming

From June to September, enjoy a StoryWalk at the John Brown Farm State Historic Site, and don’t miss Kate Messner’s “Over and Under the Pond” at the Adirondack Mountain Club’s Heart Lake site for the month of July.

Poster Contest

There is a poster contest with The Bookstore Plus, interpreting the theme: Lake Placid Reads! Contest guidelines and submission forms are available at the Library and The Bookstore Plus or online at www.lakeplacidlibrary.org. Submissions are due on Monday, Aug. 28.
