LIBRARY NEWS: Library’s AARP tax assistance to be virtual
February is here, and we hope that everyone is having a safe and healthy mid-winter, enjoying all the recent snowfall.
The library continues to be busy filling request orders, which is why the pick-up table is generally full of books, DVDs, and audiobooks. We continue to be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday for curbside service.
You can request books online through our website. Click on catalog, search by title, author, genre or series, and when you find what you are looking for, click the request button (you will need to provide your library card number and pin number). Or you can call 518-523-3200 and ask for assistance.
AARP tax assistance
AARP volunteers will once again be available to provide free tax preparation help. Due to the COVID-19 precautions, AARP has decided to provide this service virtually this year.
They have now started contacting the long list of people that the library has been compiling in the last few weeks. There has been a positive response from the community so far as they schedule appointments.
If anyone is interested in AARP tax assistance, please call the library, leave your name and phone number, and someone will get back to you to provide more information and set up an appointment.
For those interested in preparing their own tax returns, visit our library website at www.lakeplacidlibrary.org, go to the resources page, scroll down to find links to the Turbo Tax or IRS Free File.
Black History Month
We have an excellent collection of children’s books to help you teach your children about Black History Month and share some amazing powerful stories with them.
We also have an extensive adult collection to help celebrate historical and present figures making a difference.
Mrs. Armstrong and Ms. Trish hope that you have checked out the library Facebook page to celebrate Snow and Shapes. Free activity packets are still available for pickup at the library (518-523-3200).
Ms. Linda’s Storytime
Every Friday morning at 10:30, Ms. Linda meets with preschool children via zoom. She shares stories and songs that encourage participation from her young friends. Anyone wishing to join the story group can email firstname.lastname@example.org or call to be invited.
We hope everyone has had a chance to check out our new webpage. There are numerous resources for all age groups and variety of interests. There are research tools, subject guides and useful resources compiled by your friendly library professionals.
