AROUND AUSABLE: Riverside to host annual St. Patty’s Day Party
Riverside Lanes will host its annual St. Patty’s Day Party on March 17th from noon until closing. The menu will include corned beef, ham, cabbage, carrots, potatoes and turnip, and as always, is free of charge. Food will be served throughout the day starting at noon. A 50/50 raffle will be held with tickets on sale for $2 each or 3 for $5. The drawing will be at 9 p.m. Irish music will be the featured entertainment by Peacock DJ Service and will include trivia and giveaways from 4 to 9 p.m. Everyone is invited to this party, so stop by and enjoy the food and entertainment as you celebrate this special occasion.
The AuSable Valley Men and Women’s Bowling Association held their team event in their annual tournament this weekend. Nine men’s teams participated and the winners were: 1st place, Nailers, 3,492, Pat Parrow, Dave Hart Jr., Gavin Isham, Bill Siskavich, and Art Stevens; 2nd place Gordon Oil 3,370 John. Jay and David McDonald, John Snow, and Scott Brow 3rd place Adirondack Water 3,352 PK Coolidge, Randy Kane, Bob Hanley, Jim Rondeau and T.P. O’Neill.
In the women’s division 8 teams competed. The winners were: 1st place, Vincent’s Woodcrafters, 3,194, Helen Snow, Bobbi Vincent, Jenny LaBombard, Janette Isham and Stephanie Snow; 2nd place, American Legion, 3,154, Tammy Cross, Kristen Pray, Tiffany Lowther, Danyle Rockwell and Joann Bruce; 3rd place, Noonmark Diner, 3,126, Hope Nelson, Joan Gillman, Lola Porter, Pauline Dumas and Margaret LaBombard Congratulations to all the teams

I am happy to announce I have been informed that funds from the Jeff Brown fundraiser have surpassed $15,000 with donations continuing to arrive. Donations are still being gratefully accepted. Anyone wishing to make a donation may send a check, made out to Jeff Brown or cash, to Randy Douglas, 31 Aspen Lane, Jay, NY 12941. An account has been set up at our local bank and will be kept open until March 19 as the account will be closed and all funds will be taken to Jeff when the Douglas family travels to NJ to attend the fundraiser planned for Jeff by his many friends there. The New York Lottery Office recently announced that Jay resident Mark Wilkins won $25,000 on a Fat Wallet scratch ticket. He purchased the winning ticket at Wilson Farms in Saranac Lake. Congratulations Mark.

Congratulations to Eugene Rathbun of AuSable Forks who was named to the dean’s list at SUNY Canton for the fall semester.
Congratulations to AVCS bowling team members Mike Garcia and AJ Osborne who were named to the All Star Team. They were members of the chosen 24 out of approximately 110 boys eligible to qualify. Both Mike and AJ are seniors at AVCS. AJ was the captain this year and has been a member of the A team for six years. He has been bowling at Riverside Lanes since he was in first grade. Mike has been a member of the bowling team for five years.
Congratulations to Shannon Brown of AuSable Forks who has been named to the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference Third Team. Shannon is a member of the Clinton Community College women’s basketball team. She was a former standout on the basketball team when she attended AVCS. This year she led the Cougars with 339 points, 32 blocked shots and 269 rebounds. She had a career-high 20 rebounds against Adirondack Community College, which also set a team record. Shannon also had 10 double-doubles during the season despite having a knee problem. Best wishes for continued success in your basketball career, Shannon, from your many hometown fans.
Upcoming events
March 5: The second Game Night will be held at American Legion Post 504 in AuSable Forks to benefit the Keene Valley Neighborhood House. Doors will open at 6 p.m. There will be no cash prizes. Everyone attending will be eligible to win locally donated prizes. There will be a $10 minimum donation at the door which includes participation in games, snacks and a chance for the grand door prize, which is a painting donated by Black Brook Artworks. There will be a cash bar available.
March 5 4-6 p.m. and March 6: 9 a.m. to noon the AuSable Forks Free Library will host its Cabin Fever Book, Bake and Tag Sale. Books, audio books, dvd’s, cd’s, videos, tag sale items and baked goods will be available.
March 7: 8-11:30 a.m. the AuSable Forks Fire Dept. will host their All You Can Eat Firehouse Big Breakfast. Adults $7, seniors $6 and children $5. Eat-in or take-out.
2-5 p.m. the Lonesome Traveler Band featuring Vi and Mitch Terry, Earl Southmayd, Sonny Carron and Joe Gero will play at the Town of Jay Community Center. There will be a full concession and a 50/50 will be sold. This event is free of charge, so stop by for great music for listening and dancing.
