Michael W. Shaw

Michael William Shaw, 70, of Lake Placid, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2025.

He was the beloved husband of Robin Wylie Shaw, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage.

Born in Lynn, Massachusetts, Mike was the son of (the late) William and Joan (Thorner) Shaw.

He was the devoted father of Chad Shaw and his wife, Sydny of Sandwich, Massachusetts. He was the loving grandfather of Mikayla, Caitlin and David Shaw of Sandwich, Massachusetts. He was the dear brother of Cynthia Leonard of Amsterdam, New York, and Susan (and Thomas) Rolli of Woburn, Massachusetts. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother Mark Shaw of Marblehead, Massachusetts and his brother in law, Thomas Leonard of Amsterdam, New York.

He grew up in Marblehead, Massachusetts, and graduated from Marblehead High School with the class of 1973. He married the love of his life and raised his family in Lake Placid. He joined the Lake Placid police force in 1974 and later purchased Ruth’s Diner where he worked with his wife, Robin, until 1992. Robin and Mike also worked together at Aubuchon Hardware for many years.

He was also a licensed home inspector. He was a dedicated member of St. Agnes Church. He volunteered for many years at the Lake Placid BBQ Festival. He enjoyed hiking the Adirondack fire towers, gardening, cooking/BBQ and especially spending time with his dogs Lady, Powder and Vega. He cherished his time spent with family and friends.

Services will take place at a later time, followed by a gathering of family and friends to share memories, remember Mike, and honor the life he lived.
