Charlotte Whitehead Miller

Charlotte Whitehead Miller, 76, of North Miami, Florida, passed away on Sept. 18, 2025, with her son, Jessie, by her side.
Born on Aug. 26, 1949, in Saranac Lake, Charlotte was the daughter of Marie (Waterstraat) and Alfred Miller. She is survived by her son, Jessie Ross.
An honors graduate in Humanities from Jefferson Community College, Watertown, Charlotte continued her education at St. Lawrence University, Canton, to pursue a degree in English Writing, where she graduated Magna cum laude in addition to receiving departmental honors in Journalism, the English Honorary Society, and as a Faculty Scholar.
Charlotte loved the written word. She was a voracious reader, an adjunct English professor at Jefferson Community College in Watertown and an English instructor for the U.S. Department of Defense at Fort Drum.
Charlotte wrote for or edited numerous publications, including the Syracuse New Times, the Thousand Island Sun, the Watertown Daily Times, and the Black River Review, while living in New York, as well as The Islander News, Island Life Magazine, I’m Not Your Boring Newspaper, and Nocturno, MetroMiami, publications from her home of the past 15 years in Florida.
Charlotte’s passion for the written word, combined with her commitment to helping people from diverse cultures, led her to become a certified English as a Foreign Language instructor and teach adult students from Saudi Arabia, Libya, Africa, Colombia, Argentina and Russia.
Right up to her death, she was a tour guide for what she referred to as “my Everglades.” She loved the Everglades’ environment and considered it a joy to introduce others to her favorite place.
Charlotte lovingly maintained friendships, including staying in touch with friends from her hometown of Saranac Lake.
Her vibrant personality has left an indelible mark on all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed by many.
A celebration of life will be held in the Everglades.
In the spring, another celebration of life will be held at Saranac Lake.
Announcements of the date and time will be posted to her friends on Facebook as well as a notice in the Adirondack Daily Enterprise.
