Stephen R. Nohowel
It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Stephen (Steve) Rehm Nohowel, 75, beloved husband, son, brother and friend of many. Steve passed away at his home in Potomac, Maryland on March 25, 2025, after a long struggle with pancreatic cancer.
He will be remembered as an accomplished, responsible and caring man, with a clever wit. He always looked after his family and those close to him with unwavering love and guidance.
Steve was born in Saranac Lake on Sept. 13, 1949, and was raised in Bethesda, Maryland, where he attended Norwood Parish and Landon Schools and then continued his education at Bucknell University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1972. He started his career working for Tandy Corporation, where he was responsible for the successful operation of several hundred Radio Shack stores. As Tandy Corporation started a gradual decline, Steve embarked on a new career in April 1986 and became a Certified Financial Planner. For 38 years, he enjoyed assisting clients in every aspect of their financial lives. His actions in business were guided by patience, respect and sensitivity, treating each client like family. In addition to his association with Capitol Securities Management, Steve managed D.C.M. Corp, the business his father, Oscar founded in 1957.
Steve was an avid boater; he could finally relax and enjoy weekends on the Chesapeake Bay with his devoted wife, Joyce, close friends and affectionate beagles. Summer vacations at his home on Lake Placid also brought Steve great happiness, especially navigating the lake in the family’s classic 1942 Chris Craft the “Margie.”
Steve will be sorely missed by all who were blessed to know him. Humble and sincere, honest to a fault, Steve’s quiet influence will live on in all those he touched.
Steve is survived by his wife, Joyce Inez Nohowel (Schlosser); mother, Marjorie Rehm Nohowel (Wasilewski); sister, Margaret Dressler Nohowel; and many nieces, nephew, grand nieces and grand nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Oscar Dressler Nohowel; and sister, Shelley Anne Nohowel.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 4 at St. James’ Episcopal Church, 11815 Seven Locks Road, Potomac, Maryland.
