Henry Neverett

Henry Neverett — husband, father, grandfather and friend — passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024, at his home in New Bern, North Carolina at the age of 84.

Born on July 27, 1939, in Plattsburgh, he spent his formative years at St. John’s Academy, where he excelled at baseball and attended classes as well.

Moving to the North Country in the early 1970s, Henry made his home in the Saranac Lake/Lake Placid region. He wasn’t hard to find in those days, as he was always driving around in his convertible whether it be a big old Caddy or a Ford Mustang. He was a rag top man through and through. He spent time playing softball or heading to the bobsled run. He was always on the move stopping at a few pubs along the way from the Dew Drop Inn or the Vet’s Club placing a bet or more likely taking one. One thing he always looked forward to was the summer trip to Saratoga to play the ponies. He was a professional waiter, working at Jimmy’s 21 to 20-plus years at the Charcoal Pit, both in Lake Placid. He always had his group of regulars that were to see him as much as to enjoy a good meal.

Henry and Sue retired to North Carolina in the early 2000s to escape the snow and cold, although one winter day it snowed about 3 inches. Always the kid at heart, Henry snapped on his cross-country skis and took a lap to the surprise of the neighbors I’m sure.

In retirement, he looked forward to the two weeks every spring at their time share in Daytona Beach with friends and family. A beach chair, full cooler, blue skies and sunshine … Heaven.

Starting at $1.44/week.
