Sandra J. Mihill

Sandra J. Mihill, 77 of Lake Placid, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born on July 28, 1945, in Lake Placid, she was the daughter of George and Louis Kilburn.

Sandy was born and raised in Lake Placid and attended Lake Placid High School. She spent her younger year’s bartending at the American Legion and the Chubb River. She was known to sing Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn and other classic country music. Sandy was a part of the American Legion Auxiliary for many years. She enjoyed creating many events at the legion with Marion Shipman, Peggy Nugent, Dede Strack, Pat Daby, Lorraine Statts, Diane Santana, Lynda Despourdy and many more. She also loved to spoil her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sandy always took stray animals and children in as her own, and wasn’t afraid to tell you like it was.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Allen Mihill. They shared 60-plus years together. Together they raised their four children and numerous animals, including their beloved dog, Baby. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Tony, Gene, Pricilla and Valarie (Kilburn) and her son-in-laws, Tom Riedl and Larry Euber.

Sandy is also survived by her children, Tammy Riedl, Shawn Mihill Kilburn and Damon and Shelly Mihill, all of Lake Placid, and Samantha Euber of Saranac Lake; stepdaughter, Matoaka Rodier of Saratoga Springs; siblings, Lolly Chainao, Sharon, Jackie, William and Joe Kilburn; loving grandchildren, Jamie Costa, Tanner Currier, Ali Mihill, Amber and Donald Herzog, Matoaka Riedl and Rob Barlo, Cheyenne and Rob Lewis; nine great-grandchildren, who were her world; and longtime family friend Sharron Nugent.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake.

There will be a celebration of life at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 9 at the American Legion in Lake Placid.

Memorial donations may be made to the Lake Placid Ladies Auxiliary or the Tri-Lakes Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
