Barbara Dunn Abbott

Barbara Dunn Abbott, 86, passed away peacefully at the Inspired Living Memory Care Facility in Bradenton, Florida, on Monday, June 5, 2023, with her husband and children by her side.

Born on June 8, 1936, in Lake Placid, New York, she was the daughter of Dorothy and Archie Dunn. where She spent most of her life in Lake Placid before moving to Clifton Park, New York, and later to Bradenton.

Barbara graduated from Lake Placid Central School and continued her education to become a dental nurse. She married John Kenyon Abbott on Nov. 19, 1960. After she and Ken started a family, she was a stay-at-home mom but also spent several years as a teachers’ aid at Lake Placid Central School and worked with the family business, Adirondack Awards, Inc. in Lake Placid.

Family was Barbara’s number one priority. She loved and supported her husband, all three of her children as well as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the many pets over the years. Nothing brought more joy to her than spending time with family. Barbara was proud of her Scottish heritage and the Dunn family of golf. She held a strong love of music and performing. She was an active member of the Adirondack Community Church and church choir for many years.

She was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy and Archie Dunn, and a great-granddaughter, Kylee.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 62 years, John Kenyon Abbott; son Stephen (Brenda) Abbott of Williston, Vermont; daughters Bonnie (Mark) Burroughs of Rexford, New York, and Lori (James) Staats of Bradenton, Florida; grandchildren Amanda (Mike) Webb of Hinesburg, Vermont, Shannon (Weston) Wheeler of Hinesburg, Vermont, Christopher (Gina) Burroughs of Clifton Park, New York, Michael (Rachel) Burroughs of Poughkeepsie, New York, and Jonathan Burroughs of Rexford, New York; and great-grandchildren, Aiden, Asher, Avery, Lochlan, Remi, Aubree, Ava and Riley.

Her family loves and misses her but knows she is now looking over them.

Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd St. West, Bradenton, FL 34209, is in charge of arrangements. A private service will be held at a later date in Lake Placid.
