She is predeceased by her husband, Bob Gettens, and is survived by her son Robert, daughter-in-law Kim, and granddaughters Ellie and Emily, along with dog Pepper and many nieces and nephews.

Sue loved her career as a high school counselor and director of guidance in the Lakeland School District in Westchester County, New York. Upon retirement, Sue and Bob moved from North Salem, New York, to Wilmington, where they built a lovely home.

As a Master Gardener, Sue created beautiful perennial gardens on the property. In addition to gardening, Sue was an avid reader, a fantastic cook, creator of many Halloween costumes and a variety of textile projects, and volunteered for many causes in the community. Sue was passionate about the arts, specifically theater and music, and was the most devoted supporter of Bob’s career as an artist. Sue and Bob were ardent travelers, visiting countries throughout Europe, Africa, Central America, and Australia. These passions were passed down to her family. Throughout her life, Sue provided a listening ear and comfort to many people.

A celebration of Sue’s life will be planned for early June when flowers and gardens are in bloom. Memorial donations can be made to Adirondack Health Oncology Center or Lake Placid Center for the Arts.
