Born on Jan. 7, 1930, in Springfield, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Catherine (Harrington) and Hassan Seeley Thomas. In 1956, she married David Harton Ackerman (who predeceased her in 2013). Together they raised their two children, Jane and David, in New Vernon and Lake Placid, New York.
