Susan Hohmann Rickard

Susan Hohmann Rickard, of Lake Placid, passed away peacefully Feb. 25, 2022, with family by her side.

Born on Nov. 12, 1948, in Hartford, Connecticut, she grew up in Andover, Connecticut and frequently traveled with her family to Lake Placid to hike the High Peaks starting in the late 1950s. In 1963, her mother Margaret (Peg) #207, father James (Bud) #188, brother Jay #248, and Sue #275 were the first nuclear family to complete the 46 Adirondack High Peaks.

Sue eventually moved to Lake Placid in the late 1960s where she met and married her first husband Matthew Hurley Devlin Jr. in 1969. Sue was very active in town during these years running the Arena Grill with Matt, working at various establishments in town, volunteering and working for the 1980 Winter Olympic committee.

Sue remarried in 1987 to Johnny Rickard and together they enjoyed many wonderful years living on the west shore of Lake Placid lake and wintering in New Smyrna Beach, Florida

Sue is survived by her brother James (Jay) Hohmann and his wife Joan of Honeoye, New York; son Matthew H. Devlin III and his wife Susan of Waterford, New York; daughter Kirsten Cowles and her husband Steve of Tallahassee, Florida; stepchildren John (Buzzy) Rickard and his wife Anne of Lake Placid; and Kristen Rickard of Dahlonega, Georgia; grandchildren Dariann, Roger, Brinley and Bryson; step-grandchildren Justen, Hunter, Griffin and Georgianna; great-granddaughter Braileigh; and nephews Andrew and Jake.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to High Peaks Hospice (highpeakshospice.org) or the Tri-Lakes Humane society (www.trilakeshumanesociety.org).
