Shelly Orringer Sherr

Shelly Orringer Sherr, of New York City and a part-time resident of Lake Placid, passed away on June 7, 2021.

Born in New York City, she was the younger of two daughters to Max and Gussie Genser.

Shelly was a graduate of New York University and received a master’s degree in speech therapy from Columbia University.

Shelly enjoyed performing. She studied acting, under Lee Strasberg and Stella Adler. Over the years, she appeared in many off-Broadway plays and had small parts in movies. She was a longtime member of the Screen Actors Guild.

Not only was she involved in acting, she also hosted a public radio show, “In Touch,” in New York City for many years.

Shelly loved spending her summers and holidays in Lake Placid. Her favorite pastimes were attending the Lake Placid Sinfonietta and playing bridge with her friends.

Family was very important to Shelly. She especially enjoyed spending time with her two grandchildren, Natalie Kahn of New York City and Lucy Orringer of Lake Placid, her daughter and son-in-law, Jane Gail Orringer and Jim Kahn of New York City, and with her son and daughter-in-law, Andrew Orringer and May Chow of Lake Placid.
