Clifford J. ‘Kip’ Wells Sr.

Clifford J. “Kip” Wells Sr., 87, of Cascade Road, Lake Placid, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020, at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born on May 8, 1933 in Saranac Lake, he was the son of Truman and Gertrude (Patnode) Wells.

Kip served in the United States Army stationed in Germany and as an MP during the Korean War. He was discharged in 1955. After his discharge from the Army, he married Greta A. Maynard on March 10, 1956 at Adirondack Community Church, Lake Placid.

He loved to cook, and Kip was employed as a chef at Placid Memorial Hospital and the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid. He also worked as an aide at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid for several years. Kip loved his family and cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren.

Kip is survived by his wife, Greta A. (Maynard) Wells, of Lake Placid; one son, Clifford J. Wells Jr. and his wife Natalie; three grandchildren, Melissa Holland and her husband William, Josh Wells and his fiancee Helen Crosen, and Caitlin VanDaen and her fiance Jason Conrad; great-grandchildren William Holland, Olivia Holland, Lauren Holland, Alyssa Wells, Sophia Wells, Ruby Crosen, Emma Wells and Calleigh Wells.

He was predeceased by his parents; great-granddaughter Kiersten Wells; three sisters, Helen Parker, Mamie Sears and Violet Bliss; and four brothers, Edward Wells, Harold Wells, Truman Wells and Robert Wells.

There are no services scheduled at this time. The M. B. Clark, Inc., Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements.
