Michael Charles Corrow

It is with great sadness that the family of Michael Charles Corrow announces his passing, after a brief illness with cancer, on Sunday, April 12, 2020, at the age of 61.

Born in Lake Placid on Feb. 16, 1959, he was the son of John and Jancie (Hickley) Corrow. Mike married Julia Rita Jewtraw, his Sweetest Thing, on Jan. 22, 1980, in Lake Placid. Mike will be lovingly remembered by his wife Julia and his children Melissa (Dan), Monaca (Mike), Lance (Krista) and Paul. Mike will also be fondly remembered by his six grandchildren: Scott Michael, Carter Thomas, Ian, Brennan, Emilya and Lesa; by his brother John Corrow (Tammy); and sisters Renee Clements, Cathy Jewtraw (Jim) and Penny Call. Mike will also be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Mike was predeceased by his father and mother John and Janice, brother Tracy and sister Lesa.

Mike worked as a heavy equipment operator at the Lake Placid Village Highway Department for 30 years, and he recently retired in May. Locals would always see him in the sweeper or loader, giving out smiles and waves freely.

Mike was respected, admired and loved by many. His heart of gold opened his doors over the years to nephews and friends who needed a place to stay with guidance and love. Mike was selfless. He never asked for help but was the first to offer it. His children were his everything; their friends were treated as his own. Over the years his children were growing, his home was always a place of refuge and comfort for all their friends. He cooked them all meals, celebrated holidays, made jokes, never hesitated to pick anyone up that had too many drinks on any dirt road, and cranked his music to sing out load and cut a rug.

Mike loved the Adirondacks and all it had to offer. His favorite activities included fishing, hunting, auto mechanics, coffee hour at Stewart’s, and spending time with his grandkids and family.

Mike’s spirit will live on through his children, and all others he touched through the years. When a storm is coming, all other birds seek shelter. The eagle alone avoids storms by flying above it. So in the storms of life, may your heart be like Mike’s and soar above like an eagle.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a Mass of Christian burial will take place this summer with details to come.
