He was 88 years old.

He was born and raised in Frederick, Md., where he became an Eagle Scout. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and went into active duty on Nov. 1, 1943, after his graduation from Frederick High School. In 1950, he married the love of his life, Nancy Schroeder, a marriage that lasted 60 years until Nancy’s death in 2010.

After his retirement from Bell Atlantic Telephone Company in 1985, he and Nancy moved to Lake Placid in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains. Bill was at one with nature, spending many hours hiking in the majestic mountains and canoeing on the pristine waters.

Bill and Nancy immersed themselves in the community, devoting many hours to support local organizations and nurturing many beautiful friendships. After Nancy’s death, Bill moved to Indianapolis, Ind., where he was cared for by his daughter, Nancy Lynn.

Bill is survived by his three children: Rebecca Morton Davies, Nancy Lynn Morton Waller and Mark William Morton; Mark’s wife, Susan Hirschfeld Morton; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and two sisters: Roberta (Betty) Evans and Evelyn Manwiller.
