Nancy was born in Frederick, Md. During her 30-year career as an educator in the Montgomery County, Md., Public School System she had leadership roles in the Department of Curriculum, with a specialty in math. She also served as an administrative assistant to the superintendent, as well as a principal in elementary and middle schools.

    Nancy and her husband loved the Adirondacks, vacationing there regularly with their family. After retirement, they made their permanent home in Lake Placid. Years later they moved to their present home in Fawn Ridge.

    Nancy was an active member of the community, serving the village of Lake Placid in innumerable ways, including the Lake Placid Garden Club, assisting at Uihlein Nursing Home, and volunteering for multiple sporting events. Nancy was appointed to the Appearance Committee, which included the recent restoration of the village’s Mid’s Park.

    Music was a lifelong passion. Her relationship with the board of the Lake Placid Sinfonietta was long-standing — Nancy served as a member of the board and as its president.

      Her love of music was equally shared with her love of the arts, leading to her appointment to serve on the board of the Lake Placid Center for the Arts.

    Nancy loved life. Her infectious, optimistic and courageous view influenced family and friends alike. It is with love and gratitude that we now see her move beyond us.

    Nancy is survived by her beloved and loving husband of more than 60 years, William Dare Morton Jr.; daughters Rebecca Morton Davies and Nancy Lynn Morton Waller; son Mark William Morton and daughter-in-law Susan Emily Hirschfeld; grandchildren: Meghan Rebecca Little and husband Christopher Robert Little, Greta Marie Waller, Sasha Lynn Waller, Allegra Dixon Waller, Brock Franklyn Waller, Sophia Hirschfeld Morton, Alexander Hirschfeld Morton; and great-grandson Brayden Christopher Little.

    Nancy was a committed member of St. Eustace Episcopal Church.

    A memorial service was held July 9 at St. Eustace Episcopal Church.
