Cassie and Maggie Christmas concert Dec. 10

KEENE VALLEY — Nova Scotia born and raised Cassie and Maggie are bringing their deep love and understanding of Celtic music to the Olympic Region for a special Christmas program, A Very, Very Cassie and Maggie Christmas, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10 at the Keene Valley Congregational Church. The concert is presented by East Branch Friends of the Arts.

This powerhouse sister duo has won several awards in their native Canada, including 17 Canadian Folk Music awards and nominations. Their beautiful vocal harmonies, infectious driving rhythm and virtuoso instrumental work capture the heart and soul of Celtic traditional music. But they also put their own 21st century stamp on the music, alternating between Gaelic and English, and the result is nothing short of mesmerizing.

The two have been enchanting audiences around the world with their unparalleled unity of strings, voices and fabulous percussive step dance. Theirs is the perfect balance between musical integrity and sheer entertainment as they seamlessly blend tunes passed down through generations of musicians with their own songwriting.

They were voted Female Singers of the Year by Live Ireland Radio, nominated for Album the Year by NPR’s Celtic Connection and nominated for multiple JUNO awards. (JUNO is the Canadian GRAMMY award) Live Ireland Radio described them: “Cassie and Maggie… What an unbelievably gifted duo, the train is just gathering steam and leaving the station on these new stars. It is going to be a glorious journey, and it is already well-begun.”
