Lake Placid awarded wastewater grant
LAKE PLACID — The village of Lake Placid was awarded a $50,000 Wastewater Infrastructure Engineering Planning Grant from the state. The funds will be used for a study that will evaluate the sewers along the lower section of Main Street.
The village and town of North Elba are gearing up for several wastewater system projects, including a fully funded upgrade to the water treatment plant and repairs to the sewer line along Ruisseaumont Way and along the back side of Mirror Lake.
This is a separate project, according to village treasurer Mindy Goddeau. It’s a preliminary study that will assess the capacity of the sewer line in case additional developments are built in the future. The town and village have a joint system, so wastewater from any new developments in the town ultimately need to pass through the village’s system and treatment plant.
“Because there’s been so much conversation about increased housing and infrastructure, we have to make sure that our sewer lines will be able to maintain the amount of sewage that any increased infrastructure would bring,” Goddeau said.
The state awarded more than $20 million in grants as a part of two programs. Twelve projects were awarded $17 million through the Green Innovation Grant Program and $3 million was awarded for Wastewater Infrastructure Engineering Planning Grants in 59 communities.
“Every New Yorker deserves access to clean, safe water, and we’re making that happen by investing in smart, affordable infrastructure upgrades,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a statement on Aug. 6. “From planning to construction, we’re supporting communities every step of the way so families across the state can count on reliable water systems for years to come.”
