The Rotary Club of Lake Placid is proud to announce Savannah Crowley, a junior at Lake Placid Middle-High School, as the 2025 recipient of the Kate Smith Scholarship — an annual award recognizing outstanding musical talent and contribution among local students.

Named in honor of legendary American singer and long-time Lake Placid summer resident Kate Smith (1907-1986), the scholarship celebrates Smith’s remarkable legacy in radio, television, theater, and music. Best known for her iconic rendition of “God Bless America,” Kate Smith made a lasting impression on the community and the nation with her artistry and patriotism.

Since 1994, the Rotary Club has presented the Kate Smith Scholarship to a Lake Placid High School junior or senior who demonstrates exceptional musical ability and a commitment to the school’s music programs. The selection committee includes representatives from Rotary, the school’s vocal and instrumental music faculty, the guidance counselor and the school principal.

This year’s recipient, Savannah Crowley, exemplifies the spirit and standards of the Kate Smith Award. A passionate and prolific performer, Savannah is involved in both of the school’s curricular music ensembles and actively participates in two extracurricular music groups. She’s also a standout member of the drama department, having appeared in every theatrical production offered at Lake Placid Middle-High School.

Most recently, she lit up the stage as Marie, the Fairy Godmother, in Cinderella this past March.

“Savannah’s dedication to music and the arts is truly inspiring,” said Charlotte Newbury, Committee Chair of the Kate Smith Award and Rotary Club of Lake Placid Board Member. “She embodies the creativity, passion, and excellence that this scholarship represents.”

As part of the celebration, Savannah performed the beautiful aria “O Del Mio Dolce Ardor” after accepting her award.

The Kate Smith Scholarship includes a $1,000 cash prize, intended to support college application costs or other higher education expenses.
