Intergenerational dance, concert set for March 15

Nationally renowned musicians, Dan Duggan & Peggy Lynn.

SARANAC LAKE — Nationally renowned musicians, Dan Duggan & Peggy Lynn bring their talents to Saranac Village at Will Rogers in March for an intergenerational concert and dance on Saturday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m.

“The Voice of the Mountains,” Peggy Lynn is recognized for her soulful songwriting and extraordinary vocal versatility. She is known for ballads of strong women, children’s songs about nature, and bluesy songs of life and love. Dan is known nationally for his wizardry on hammered dulcimer and flat-picking guitar. He is a true multi-instrumentalist, equally at home on guitar, slide guitar, piano, banjo, and his signature hammered dulcimer.

Previously, this accomplished duo led Will Rogers in song and dance on New Year’s Eve as part of the village’s North Country New Year (and First Night) activities. Dan taught traditional steps, calling instructions in barn dance fashion, while Peggy played guitar. Dancers ranged in age from the very young to the not so very young, and a good time was had by all.

“Our lives are increasingly siloed,” Assistant Activities Director, Adrien Vlach said. “And all the screens in all the pockets are not helping. We need these opportunities to bring young and old together, and nothing does that quite as joyfully as dancing to Dan’s playful instruction”.

The evening will begin with a community concert, and the dance will follow, after a brief intermission. Duggan stopped short of calling it a contra dance; “It’s a community dance! We do lines, circles, and occasionally squares, but nothing too complicated. You don’t need experience or athleticism to participate and have fun.”

Like most of the retirement community’s public events, admission is by donation. Saranac Village at Will Rogers is accessible, and light refreshments will be available.

Starting at $1.44/week.
