Adirondack Center for Writing plans free film, poetry night
SARANAC LAKE — The Adirondack Center for Writing will host Moving Stills: Film and Poetry on Friday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. The event is free and includes a presentation of 12 short films and readings of poems inspired by the films.
Earlier this year, filmmaker Michael Hart enlisted six North Country writers — Sylvia Karman, Jim Bourey, Erica Kelso, Ethan Shantie, Isabelle Bohl and ACW’s own Tyler Barton — to create new work inspired by his short, experimental films. Hart composed music and used recordings of the poems to create an expansive, interdisciplinary art collaboration which premiered in Malone this past April as part of National Poetry Month.
“The goal was to bring a touch of literary art to Michael’s amazing film imagery and music,” Dickinson Center poet Jim Bourey said. “As Michael expressed to me during the editing process ‘It didn’t seem like the poems were tacked onto the films, but the films were absorbing the poetry.’ It worked out very well and has been enthusiastically received by audiences in Malone and Potsdam.”
