‘History & Legends in the Northern Adirondacks’ lecture in Wilmington

WILMINGTON — The community is invited to the Wilmington Historical Society program “History and Legends of the Northern Adirondacks” with author and historian John Sasso at 7 p.m. Friday, July 19 at the Atmospheric Sciences Research Center, located at 110 Marble Mountain Lane.

Based upon his recently released book, the presentation expands upon John Sasso’s experiences and research. The author will sign books. The program is free and open to the public.

Since he began hiking the mountains of the Adirondacks, John Sasso has been intrigued with the artifacts he would stumble upon, such as iron bolts from old land surveys, remnants of long-gone logging camps, mysterious wood roads, and stone foundations. The questions those finds provoked: “What was here?” “What was their purpose?” and “Where did the name come from?” led him to research and write about the often-surprising and always entertaining answers he’s found over the years.

The program is free and open to the public, made possible, in part, by the Essex County Arts Council’s Cultural Assistance Program Grant with funding provided by Essex County.

Starting at $1.44/week.
