Northern Lights Choir concert set for Friday, May 10

SARANAC LAKE — The Northern Lights Choir will host a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 10 at St. Bernard’s Church.

This concert spans genres and geographies, featuring works from spirituals to patriotic anthems, including a soul-stirring arrangement of “I’m Building Me A Home” by Anthony Trecek-King, the powerful “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” and the gorgeous “Cantique de Jean Racine” by Gabriel Faur.

The focal point of this much-anticipated performance is an awe-inspiring new composition, “The Cry of the Hunger Stones,” created by acclaimed Adirondack composer Glenn McClure. His landmark piece is the culmination of McClure’s collaboration with hydrologists and climate scientists, seamlessly weaving their research data into an immersive musical experience.

The piece takes listeners on an immersive journey along the currents of an Eastern European river, with brilliant orchestrations translating scientific data into a spellbinding musical narrative.

“We hold a high bar for our choral concerts. Our music reflects the natural beauty and the complexity of the Adirondack region. It speaks from the hearts of our singers into the mountains that surround us,” choir director Helen Demong said.

The concert will also showcase a performance by Paul Smith’s College students

Pre-sale tickets for $13 are available at Ampersound, 52 Main Street, Saranac Lake, $15 suggested donation at the door.

Starting at $1.44/week.
