Casting day is set for this summer’s musical-in-a-week theater production

KEENE VALLEY — The Book & Blanket Players Youth Theatre is pleased and grateful to announce support from Stewart’s Holiday Match and the Pumpkin Hill Foundation for the annual summer musical-in-a-week theater production with Casting Days set for May 17 and 18 at the Keene Valley Library 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and 1 to 3 p.m., respectively.

This summer brings another original musical to the stage for this unique theater company.

Everyone Loves Camping was created by Westport residents and high school students Cooper Halloran and Sadie Burgess along with the company’s producer/director Kathleen Recchia.

For months the team has been meeting on a weekly basis working on plot, dialogue and music for this story about a family camping trip that doesn’t turn out exactly as “Dad” had planned.

“It has been a challenging experience for all of us,” Recchia said. “But we’re very happy with the outcome. There is humor, drama, and of course, song and dance. We’re excited to hear what our cast of students will do with it.”

The intensive youth musical theater workshop will run from July 7 through July 14 at Keene Central School in Keene Valley. Casting day is set for Friday, May 17 from 3:15 to 5 and Saturday, May 18 from 1 to 3 PM. Ages 8 to 18 are invited to participate and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Registration forms are available by contacting Kathy Recchia at 518-708-3606 or e-mailing bookinnjay@aol.com The registration fee is $100.

Many of the production team members from previous years will be returning including vocal coach-master class teacher, Alisa Endsley. She is well known in the Broadway community.

Other members of the creative team are Rose Chancler, (Piano by Nature), Annie Scavo, Cal Page-Bryant, Maddy Runyon, and Kim Peralta with Lia Looms on hand for costuming.

This is the 14th year for the Players to take on the musical-in-a-week format. They began with the musical “Mirette,” followed by the first incarnation of the original musical Road to Dannemora.

They have taken on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and produced the Broadway musical of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women. Last year, they presented their own musical twist to the Robert Louis Stevenson classic, “Treasure Island.”

The Book & Blanket Players produces in partnership with East Branch Friends of the Arts at https://www.eastbranchfriendsofthearts.com/.
