North Elba child care survey ends March 31

LAKE PLACID — The town of North Elba is conducting a survey to determine the child care needs of the community. The survey was available to the public starting Friday, March 1.

The North Elba Town Council has determined that universal access to quality day care is important to the community.

Studies indicate that children who attend quality childcare are healthier, more productive, and less likely to require public assistance as they mature. Day care opportunities also promote a more productive and stable workforce.

In May 2023, the town board reached out to the Lake Placid/North Elba Development Commission and asked that body to examine the current situation regarding childcare opportunities. The newly formed Child Care Study Committee developed a survey with an eye toward identifying and quantifying the needs of the community. They plan to use the information gathered from the survey to develop private/public partnerships to fill those needs.

The Community Child Care Survey will be available for public to input. Residents and area workers can link to the 22 questions online from the town of North Elba website: northelba.villageoflakeplacid.ny.gov.

Printed surveys are also available at the town clerk’s office, 2693 Main St., Lake Placid. The survey will be active until March 31.

Starting at $1.44/week.
