CLINTONVILLE — Members of the Clintonville United Methodist Church on state Route 9N is reopening their thrift shop on March 9 with hope of helping any and all community members in need of quality clothing.

“If you need something, come and get it. It’s to help the community,” church member Elizabeth Smith said.

Smith brought up the reopening at a recent church meeting after hearing interest from the community.

The store is not a traditional one, but rather a donation-based shop to help the less fortunate. If someone can’t afford to pay for the clothes they pick, they don’t have to.

“If someone walks in and says, ‘I’m having a hard time, I can’t afford this, but I really need it,’ take it. It’s yours,” Smith said.

The store is run by a committee of five church members who will take turns manning the shop during its hours: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. Donations go to the church.

“Come see Tammy, Sue, Brenda, Sheila and Pat,” Smith said.

Smith added that thrift stores require a lot of work, from taking in items to putting them out and making sure someone is there to work it.

The store temporarily closed last year after being open for around four years. Tammy Santos, church treasurer and unofficial head of the committee, said that they closed mostly because the store had become inundated with so many items that it needed a revamp. She expects the opening to go well, as the store had regular customers before.

“It’s my happy place,” she said.

Donations will only be accepted from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Santos expressed that they don’t want random drop offs outside, because they don’t have anywhere to cover donations outside.

If families are in need, they will soon be able contact the church through Facebook messenger on an upcoming thrift shop Facebook page for a special appointment to help get them covered.

Starting at $1.44/week.
