LAKE PLACID — The town of North Elba has issued 304 blue Resident Parking Pass stickers since the program launched in early August, according to town Deputy Clerk Adrienne Relyea, who is in charge of issuing the passes.

Relyea said Wednesday, Sept. 13 that those stickers were given to people from 200 households, 286 were homeowners and 235 were both homeowners and registered voters. People who either own property or are registered voters in the village of Lake Placid or the town of North Elba are eligible to get a Resident Parking Pass. In all, 5,000 stickers were ordered, and the first pass was issued on Aug. 1, according to Relyea.

A pass — which needs to be placed on the passenger side of a vehicle’s windshield — gives residents free parking in any metered municipal parking lot or in metered on-street parking spaces from 7 to 11 a.m. daily. Main Street parking meters state that motorists must pay for parking between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily.

In order to get a free Resident Parking Pass, property owners and voters must stop by the North Elba Town Hall and fill out a form in the town clerk’s office. Forms can also be downloaded from the town/village website at tinyurl.com/4fwmpunv, but they must be presented in person to Relyea. Applicants need to know their license plate number for each form. Relyea has quick access to tax and voter registration rolls in her office.

“I can look up everyone here just to verify,” she said. “It’s a very simple process.”

The Resident Parking Pass program is a joint project of the village and the town. It was spearheaded by the Lake Placid Village Board of Trustees and is administered by the town. The Lake Placid Police Department is in charge of enforcing the parking meters in the village. These parking passes are valid through the end of 2025.

Starting at $1.44/week.
