Adirondack Cuisine Trail Open Farm Weekend starts Aug. 4

LEWIS — Farm tours, workshops, farm-to-table food and more are scheduled for the second annual Adirondack Cuisine Trail Open Farm Weekend from Friday, Aug. 4 to Sunday, Aug. 6.

The event will highlight farms and small businesses along the North Country, Champ’s and Boquet Valley Cuisine Trails, three of the six distinct cuisine trails that highlight agriculture in the Adirondacks.

Open Farm Events

– Sugar House Tour and Maple Samples: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Sunday at Bechard’s Sugar House in Chazy. Learn more about how they harvest and make pure maple syrup and other maple products from their 9,200-tap sugar bush. Visit for sugar house tours, maple samples and maple coffee. Free to attend.

– Make Your Own Jam Jar Flower Bouquet: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Mossbrook Roots Flower Farm & Florist in Keeseville. Learn to make a flower bouquet at the farm’s “bouquet bar” stocked with their fresh farm-grown flowers. Participants are welcome to bring a picnic lunch and blanket to enjoy on the farm. The cost is $12 per DIY bouquet, jar included.

– Craft Fair, Live Music & Food Truck: Noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at Ovalcraft Brewing in Plattsburgh. Craft fair by Old Soul Design Shop, Twisted Pita by Aleka’s food truck, live music by Marcus Meadow, and craft beer on tap. Admission is free, and food and drink will be available for purchase.

– Dairy Farm Tour & Cheese Samples: 10 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday at North Country Creamery in Keeseville. Join Ashlee Kleinhammer, co-owner and farmer at North Country Creamery, to learn how cheese is made, from pasture to plate. Meet the cows, check out the cheese cave, walk around the farm and enjoy cheese samples. Free to attend.

– Farm Tour & Local BBQ Lunch: Noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Triple Green Jade Farm in Willsboro. Take a farm and breadery tour followed by a barbecue lunch. The chicken barbecue (and vegetarian options) lunch will be sourced almost entirely from fellow farms along the Bouquet Valley Cuisine Trail. Registration is required at triplegreenjadefarm.com, and the cost is $50 per person.

Other fun things to do

– You-pick sunflowers at Adirondack View Lavender.

– You-pick blueberries and raspberries, $1 off a dozen ears of corn Aug. 4 to 6 in the store at Rulfs Orchard if you mention Open Farm Weekend.

– Visit other stops along the Adirondack Cuisine Trails that are open to the public to enjoy anytime.

– Keep exploring the Northeast at the Vermont Open Farm Week fromm Aug. 6 to 13.

As a thank you to participants, Adirondack Harvest is giving away a $100 credit to be spent at any Adirondack Harvest member business. To enter, attend an Open Farm Weekend event, post a photo of the event on social media, and tag Adirondack Harvest. The more Open Farm Weekend events you attend, the more entries attendees can earn. The drawing will be held on Aug. 10. The winner will be contacted by social media.
