LAKE PLACID — Those wanting to see the Ironman Lake Placid triathlon — either in person or virtually — have options to watch portions of the 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run on Sunday.

People who want to stream the professional coverage on their computer or mobile device can log onto the Ironman YouTube page. Although the pro men begin their race at 6:25 a.m., followed by the pro women at 6:27, the pro coverage on YouTube doesn’t begin until 10 a.m. The coverage link is https://tinyurl.com/mr3bymhp.

The age-group rolling start at Mirror Lake begins at 6:30 a.m.

People who want to track an athlete virtually can download the Ironman Tracker App on their smartphones. The app will ask smartphone users to make sure they say “allow” to enable push notifications for real-time tracking and event messages. Notifications can be turned off later if desired.

Those who want to see the action in person can park in one of three spectator parking lots, and a shuttle bus — running between 4:30 a.m. Sunday and 1 a.m. Monday — will transport them between the parking lot and a drop-off spot on Cummings Road between the Olympic Center and the Lake Placid Middle-High School. The drop-off spot is a short distance from the finish line at the Olympic Speedskating Oval — about one-quarter mile from Main Street.

The parking lots are located at the 1) Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department and 2) Lake Placid Elementary School on Old Military Road and on 3) Wesvalley Road.

The swim portion is held on Mirror Lake, starting and ending at the municipal beach on Parkside Drive. There is no parking on that street during the race. Spectators can watch the action — two 1.2-mile laps — from in front of the Beach House or along Mirror Lake Drive.

The transition area is located at the Olympic Speedskating Oval. There, athletes will put on their road gear and head onto the bike course, two 56-mile laps: Main Street to Route 73, out and back at Bobsled Run Lane at Mount Van Hoevenberg, Route 73 to Keene, Route 9N to Jay, Route 86 to Wilmington, out and back on Haselton Road, Route 86 to Lake Placid, Northwood Road to Mirror Lake Drive, Parkside Drive, Main Street, Cummings Road, behind the high school to School Street and Main Street and out for the second lap.

The official Ironman Lake Placid Spectator Guide suggests a few spots to watch the bike portion: Colden Avenue (Main Street side), Main Street (near the post office) and the intersection of Route 86 and Northwood Road.

“The Tour de France-like atmosphere there is riveting,” the guide states.

Once back at the Oval, athletes will change into running gear and begin their full marathon, two 13.1-mile laps: Main Street to Route 73, out and back on River Road, Route 73 to Main Street, out and back Mirror Lake Drive and out for a second lap.

The Spectator Guide suggests a few spots to watch the run portion: Main Street, Mirror Lake Drive, Route 73 and the finish line.

“Spectators can see their athlete multiple times throughout the run along the shores of Mirror Lake,” the guide states.

Athletes finish the Ironman race at the Oval in front of the high school where the announcer will proclaim, “You are an Ironman!”

The finish line will close at midnight.

“The final hours are very inspirational and worth staying for!” guide states.
