Saxophonist Kovalev to appear with Sinfonietta July 9

LAKE PLACID — The first Lake Placid Sinfonietta Symphony Series Concert: “Hot Magic” will be at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 9.

This concert features award-winning and internationally acclaimed virtuoso saxophonist Valentin Kovalev performing Erwin Schulhoff’s “Hot-Sonate.” Tickets are available online, by phone or in person at the LPCA box office.

Also on the Sunday program, concertgoers will listen to Mozart’s “Jupiter Symphony” and “Four Episodes” by Swiss-American composer Ernest Bloch. A complimentary meet-the-artist “wine, cheese and sweet treats” reception will follow the performance.

The Lake Placid Sinfonietta will host its free Park Series concert —“Crystal Ballroom” — at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 12 in Mid’s Park, Main Street, Lake Placid. In the event of rain or temperatures below 65 degrees, the concert will be moved to the sanctuary of St. Agnes Church on Saranac Avenue, and the concert will begin at 7:15 p.m.

At 7 p.m. Thursday, July 13, the orchestra will travel to Saranac Lake for the first Adirondack Series concert at the Hotel Saranac in the upstairs ballroom. Admission is free. This concert is presented in collaboration with Historic Saranac Lake in celebration of their newly acquired collection of artifacts belonging to renowned composer Bela Bartok. The program will be a mix of orchestra favorites highlighted by Romanian Folk Dances by Bartok.
