Lake Placid to honor Dusty Smith on June 18

LAKE PLACID — Lake Placid will pay tribute to John Dustin “Dusty” Smith and wish him a happy 100th birthday from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 18 at the Olympic Speedskating Oval.

Smith is the last and oldest surviving World War II veteran from the town of North Elba. His party is open to the public, free of charge. Free hot dogs, hamburgers, birthday cake and non-alcoholic beverages will be available.

Smith was also a longtime employee of the Lake Placid Central School District.

The elements of the party will come to fruition thanks to Lake Placid Central School, town of North Elba, Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department, Central Garage, Jeannette Pratt, Parmelee Tolkan, Adirondack Corner Store, Karen Cooper and Cerruti Chiropractic.

Those attending should look for a tent on the grass infield of the oval in front of Lake Placid Middle-High School.

Starting at $1.44/week.
