ROOST will discuss marketing for 2024 eclipse

The library handed out hundreds of pairs of eclipse glasses in 2017 but still ran out days before the event. Ron Huber, who is responsible for all things computer and internet, and wife Ginger went out on Main Street to share theirs. Lots of passersby were made happy at being able to have a look. LAKE PLACID — The Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism is hosting a virtual community session on Wednesday, May 10 to discuss business and community planning efforts behind next year’s total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, 2024.

ROOST’s virtual session will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 10. Preregistration for the session is required. The preregistration link, as well as marketing materials and some frequently asked questions about the eclipse, is available at www.roostadk.com/eclipse2024.

The northern region of the Adirondacks — including the Tri-Lakes area — is in the path of totality for the eclipse. That means people here are in the direct line of the moon’s passage between the sun and the earth, completely blocking the sun and creating a shadow over the Adirondacks for around three-and-a-half minutes starting at around 3:24 p.m. on April 8, 2024. People outside the path of totality will only see a partial eclipse.

Because of the region’s prime location for the eclipse, ROOST is expecting an influx of visitors from around the U.S. Wednesday’s community session will include discussions about best marketing practices for the event.

ROOST has come up with a marketing toolkit for local businesses that want to advertise eclipse-related specials or events. The office is calling the eclipse event “Eclipse ADK 2024,” and ROOST created an eclipse website at www.2024-eclipse.com.

ROOST has also formed the Eclipse ADK 2024 Task Force to discuss and handle all regional eclipse-related topics.

Starting at $1.44/week.
